Playground Technical Specifications & Safety
Material selection, timber preparation, hardware, ropes, surfacing and installation details all contribute to the durability and safety of a playground project.
Our Technical Approach
A playground should be evaluated as a complete system rather than as individual products. Equipment dimensions, safety clearances, fall areas, ground conditions, foundations, surfacing and installation quality need to work together.
Elysee develops project layouts with the intended age group, expected capacity, site conditions and long-term outdoor use in mind. Products are checked before dispatch, while final site safety also depends on correct installation and ongoing inspection.
Outdoor-Grade Materials
Timber, steel, ropes, panels and fasteners are selected according to their function and exposure to outdoor conditions.
Safety-Oriented Design
Access, openings, clearances, fall areas and equipment placement are planned with EN 1176 requirements in mind.
Production Control
Finished components are reviewed for workmanship, surfaces, connections and project conformity before shipment.
Timber Preparation and Surface Protection
Wooden components are machined and finished to reduce sharp edges and rough contact surfaces. Depending on the product specification, timber receives outdoor protection suitable for playground use rather than a brittle varnish-type finish.
Correct drainage, installation above standing water and periodic maintenance are important for preserving timber performance over the life of the playground.

Hardware, Ropes and Structural Details
Fasteners & Connections
Contact points are designed to minimize exposed sharp hardware. Depending on the product, connections may use recessed, covered or stainless fasteners.
Steel-Reinforced Ropes
Climbing and rope activities can use steel-reinforced rope systems for higher durability under intensive outdoor use.
Galvanized Steel Parts
Structural steel components and anchors can be galvanized or otherwise protected against corrosion according to the product and installation detail.
Slides & Panels
Depending on the model, slides can be specified in stainless steel or UV-resistant polyethylene, while selected climbing panels use weather-resistant sheet materials suitable for exterior use.
Foundations and Installation
Correct anchoring is essential for outdoor playground performance. Foundation dimensions and anchoring details depend on the equipment, soil or slab conditions and project design. Installation areas should be prepared according to the approved layout before assembly begins.
Safety Surfacing
Surfacing is selected according to the playground layout, critical fall height and project conditions. Rubber tiles or other impact-attenuating systems may be used where required. The base layer should be correctly prepared so the finished surface remains stable and drains properly.
EN 1176-Oriented Project Planning
Our project layouts consider EN 1176 playground safety requirements, including equipment spacing, access, free-fall areas and use zones. Where a tender or project requires model-specific certification, the required documentation should be confirmed for the selected equipment before order.
Modular Design and Project Adaptation
Many playground combinations can be adapted to different site dimensions and user capacities. This allows hotels, schools, construction companies and residential developments to select a system that fits the available space instead of forcing a fixed layout onto the site.
